Jumpa

I’m not a character animator, but I did have fun making this spastic, dancing dummy. All rigged using C4D’s character tools. I’m starting to get the hang of this. Now, on to making something useful.

Dog Day 2

dog-2

More refinements of the low poly dog model. Completed the rough body shape and made some ears. The big question is: do I refine it and make something realistic or just keep it low poly? These are the things that keep me up at night.

Making a Dog

dog-1

I am making a dog in Cinema 4D. I have never attempted anything like this before, but I think it is looking pretty sweet.

Plexin’

It’s been a long time since I have updated the site. Major positive life changes are allowing me to get busy gettin’ creative again. Along with a new responsive design refresh, I am hoping to add more things like tutorials and downloadable files and assets as I get back in the flow.

This is a few hours spent goofing around with Plexus. Addictive. Two separate projects that I rammed together into one clip.

The New Media Mind Map

I created this branding spot for the Academy of Art University’s School of Web Design and New Media. It was a one man affair – I wrote the script, art directed, animated, composed the music and recorded the voice over. The project took about 3 weeks in all, mostly worked on while juggling lots of other projects.

The biggest challenge when creating a spot like this, aside from the sheer amount of animation detail, is getting all the “stuff” the school does voiced and presented correctly. And to make things like EMERGING WEB STANDARDS sound interesting.

The Black Sea

I’ve been experimenting with creating large bodies of water in Cinema 4D. This is a plane with a Displacer Deformer and a Formula Deformer to make the waves. The texture has lots of noise layers that animate slightly over time. Lots of compositing in AE, as usual, with two versions – one inky black and the other sea green.

Würms

Once again playing with C4D Spline Wrap. A bunch of cylinders acting like fancy würms. Or worms. I tacked on a wireframe to show the Spline Deformer in action.

Spline Wrap Floaties

Spline Wrap Floaties sounds like a breakfast cereal, but it’s really just a plane and a Spline Wrap deformer in C4D. Once animated, I threw it into a Mograph cloner and finished in AE. This would be a great way to do a logo reveal, no?

Particular Ink Tank Drops

Sometimes I’m too lazy to bust out a video camera, food dye, and a large glass container. What we have here is an attempt to create some inky footage using only Trapcode Particular and AE. The first one is a dark blue ink. The second is a mixture of milk and blood. Mmmm. Pretty processor intensive, so I kind of stopped at one instance of Particular for each sim. As I always say, I should make a tutorial…
